This medication is used to prevent asthma and alleviate symptoms over a long period. It is also effective in relieving symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. In other words, it helps treat asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily, with asthma patients advised to take it in the evening. For allergic rhinitis patients, administration times should be determined based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet, one pouch, or one sheet once daily in the evening. Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and above should take 10 mg of montelukast once daily by mouth.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis symptoms. During treatment, neuropsychiatric side effects may occur, and patients and guardians should immediately inform a doctor if symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, sleep disorders, or suicidal thoughts arise. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so individuals with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria should avoid it. Additionally, those with a genetic condition that prevents them from breaking down lactose should not use this medication. Side effects such as fatigue, headache, indigestion, cough, and rash may occur, and if these symptoms persist, consultation with healthcare professionals is advised. This medication is not an emergency treatment for acute asthma attacks; a separate fast-acting bronchodilator should be used in emergencies. Patients with a hypersensitivity to aspirin should not take aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while on this medication. Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and use only when necessary. Children and elderly patients may also use the medication, but appropriate dosing and caution are required according to age. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so if overdosed, seek immediate medical attention for general treatment and observation.
