Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist in the control of blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with meal therapy and exercise. If there has been no prior treatment with diabetes medications or if blood sugar control is not achievable with monotherapy, this medication may be combined with Metformin. If sufficient effectiveness is not achieved with monotherapy using sulfonylureas, Metformin, or thiazolidinediones, this medication is used in combination. If blood sugar control remains challenging after combination therapy with sulfonylureas and Metformin, this medication may also be administered. Additionally, it improves blood sugar control in cases where insulin alone or in combination with Metformin is insufficient.
The recommended dose for this medication when administered alone or in combination with Metformin is 50mg once daily in the morning or 100mg divided into two doses of 50mg each in the morning and evening. When used in combination with Metformin or thiazolidinediones, the recommended dose is 100mg, taken as 50mg twice daily in the morning and evening. When combined with sulfonylureas, the recommended dose is 50mg once daily in the morning.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. Individuals allergic to the active ingredient or other components, as well as patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, should not use it. Moreover, it contains lactose and should not be given to patients with genetic disorders such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. While taking this medication, hepatic abnormalities may occur infrequently, so it is important to have regular liver function tests before and during administration. If there is a significant increase in liver enzyme levels or symptoms of jaundice appear, the use of this medication should be discontinued immediately. Additionally, this medication does not substitute for insulin in patients with type 1 diabetes or those who necessarily require insulin, so insulin treatment is not sufficient if needed alone. Taking this medication in conjunction with insulin secretagogues like sulfonylureas may increase the risk of hypoglycemia, so it is important to be vigilant for symptoms of low blood sugar. If symptoms of hypoglycemia develop, it is essential to consult with healthcare professionals immediately. Neurological symptoms such as dizziness or headache may occur, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery if such symptoms arise. If severe abdominal pain or vomiting occurs, which are symptoms of acute pancreatitis, discontinue use immediately and visit a hospital. If abnormal symptoms such as blisters, ulcers, or rashes appear on the skin, inform a doctor immediately and seek appropriate care. Particular attention is needed as skin conditions such as bullous pemphigoid have been reported. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use this medication, and it is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years as safety and efficacy have not been established. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and supportive care will be provided according to symptoms. This medication cannot be removed via hemodialysis. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container for safety.
