Improvement of blood sugar control in Type 2 diabetes
This medication is prescribed to help control blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes who are using linagliptin and metformin together. It is effective when taken alongside dietary and exercise therapy. This helps maintain stable blood sugar levels and improves diabetes management.
The dosage of this medication should be determined considering the current therapeutic regimen, efficacy, and tolerability of each patient, without exceeding the maximum recommended doses of 2.5 mg of linagliptin and 1000 mg of metformin two times a day. This medication is administered two times a day with meals. 1. If not currently receiving treatment with metformin: Start with an initial dose of Litragen Duo 2.5/500 mg, taking one tablet twice daily.
This medication can cause a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, so caution is required. Lactic acidosis is rare but can be fatal, particularly in patients with impaired renal function or heart disease. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain diseases. For example, patients with Type 1 diabetes, significantly impaired renal function, acute myocardial infarction, liver dysfunction, acute alcohol intoxication, pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication. Care should be taken to avoid the risk of hypoglycemia while using this medication. In particular, hypoglycemia may occur when used in conjunction with other blood sugar-lowering agents or insulin, so blood sugar should be checked frequently, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Renal function plays an important role, so regular renal function tests should be performed before and during administration. Deterioration in renal function may increase the risk of side effects from this medication. Patients with poor heart function should use this medication cautiously, and even more care is needed in patients with heart failure. When iodinated contrast agents used during radiological examinations are administered, the administration of this medication should be temporarily paused, and it should be restarted only after renal function has stabilized. In case of surgery, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the procedure and should not be resumed until renal function has recovered post-surgery. While taking this medication, acute pancreatitis or skin conditions such as bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if abdominal pain or skin blisters develop, you should consult a doctor immediately. Long-term use may lower vitamin B12 levels, so if symptoms of anemia or neurological symptoms arise, check vitamin B12 levels and supplementation may be needed. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are taking other medications, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant are advised against using this medication, and breastfeeding should also be avoided. This medication is not recommended for children under 10 years of age, as its safety and effectiveness have not been established. Elderly patients often have diminished renal function, so it is safer to start at the minimum effective dose and check renal function regularly. In case of overdose, lactic acidosis may occur, so if symptoms appear, go to the hospital immediately for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored in a sealed container, protected from moisture and direct sunlight, and kept out of reach of children.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a sealed container. The storage temperature should be maintained between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. This will help maintain the medication's effectiveness and safety for an extended period.
