Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive therapy for partial seizures, treatment of fibromyalgia
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, whether or not accompanied by secondary generalized symptoms. Furthermore, it is effective in the treatment of fibromyalgia. In summary, this drug is used for neuralgia, as an adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy, and for the treatment of fibromyalgia.
This medication is taken orally, divided into two doses daily, with or without food. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dosage is 150 mg per day. The dosage may be increased to 300 mg per day within 3 to 7 days, and up to a maximum of 600 mg if necessary, with 7 days between increments. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dosage is 150 mg per day; after one week, the dosage may be increased to 300 mg per day.
It's not recommended to administer this medication to pediatric patients under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12-17 due to insufficient safety and efficacy data.
This drug may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior; therefore, it is crucial to monitor carefully for signs of depression or mood changes during treatment. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication should not take it. Diabetics should be cautious as weight gain could affect blood sugar control. If symptoms of angioedema occur, the medication should be stopped immediately. Elderly persons should be particularly careful as dizziness or drowsiness may increase the risk of falls. Vision blurring or changes may occur, and symptoms should be reported if they arise. Abruptly stopping this medication may cause withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, or anxiety, so it should be tapered off gradually according to doctor's instructions. Patients with a history of drug abuse may be at higher risk for misuse of this medication and should use caution. Patients with reduced renal function may require dose adjustments. Patients with heart disease should consult with a doctor before taking this medication. Caution is advised when taking this drug together with opioid analgesics due to the risk of central nervous system depression. Patients with respiratory or renal disorders may have an increased risk of severe respiratory depression and may require dose adjustments. Pregnant women should avoid this medication during early pregnancy as it may affect the fetus, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should consider stopping nursing or discontinue the medication as it can be transmitted through breast milk. Activities requiring mental alertness like driving or operating machinery should be avoided until it is clear that this medication does not cause dizziness or drowsiness. Severe skin reactions may occur rarely; if abnormal skin symptoms develop, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical advice sought. In case of an overdose, symptoms may include drowsiness, confusion, or depression; treatment such as hemodialysis may be required if necessary. Keep out of reach of children and be careful not to transfer the medication to another container.
