Improvement of postmenopausal osteoporosis
Used for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. This medication increases bone density and reduces the risk of fractures.
3mg is administered as an intravenous injection every 3 months over 15-30 seconds. Patients are advised to additionally take calcium and vitamin D supplements. If a scheduled dose is missed, administer the injection as soon as possible and continue regular dosing every 3 months thereafter.
This medication must be administered via intravenous injection, and great caution should be taken as injecting into arteries or around veins may cause tissue damage. Do not use in patients who are allergic to this medication or its components, or in patients with untreated hypocalcemia. This medication may temporarily lower serum calcium levels; therefore, hypocalcemia or metabolic bone and mineral disorders should be treated before use, and adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D is important. During the treatment period, regular medical check-ups are required, particularly for patients with renal dysfunction or those taking medications that may affect the kidneys. Osteonecrosis of the jaw may occur during treatment with this medication, so patients with risk factors should have a dental examination prior to treatment and avoid excessive dental work during treatment. Additionally, this medication may cause various side effects such as myalgia, arthralgia, dyspepsia, headache, rash, etc., so if any abnormal symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this medication as its safety has not been established. In case of overdose, serum calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium levels may decrease abnormally, so appropriate treatment and monitoring are necessary. This medication should not be mixed with other calcium-containing solutions or intravenous medications, and syringes and needles should not be reused and should be disposed of safely.
