How to take

Adult dose

For adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older, take 10 mg of montelukast orally once a day. This medication should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Asthma patients should take it in the evening, and patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet, pouch, or film in the evening once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis. During the treatment with this medication, psychiatric symptoms may occur; therefore, both patients and guardians should closely monitor for symptoms such as anxiety, depression, aggressive behavior, sleep disturbances, and suicidal thoughts. If any of these symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which should be avoided by patients with phenylketonuria, and there are daily intake limits for aspartame. Since it contains lactose, patients with genetic problems such as galactose intolerance or lactase deficiency should not use this medication. This medication is not intended for the treatment of acute asthma attacks, so appropriate emergency medications should be used in case of sudden symptoms. Additionally, patients who are hypersensitive to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid taking these medications while using this one. During use, dosages of other asthma medications should be adjusted according to the physician's instructions, and should not be discontinued or changed arbitrarily. This medication should be given to pregnant women only if necessary, and caution is needed for breastfeeding mothers. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, general symptomatic treatment and clinical observation are necessary.
