Improvement of chronic constipation symptoms
This medication is used to treat chronic constipation symptoms in adult patients who have failed to alleviate symptoms with the use of laxatives.
This medication is administered orally and can be given at any time of the day regardless of meals. Adults: 2mg once daily Elderly over 65 years: Initial dose is 1mg once daily, which can be increased to 2mg once daily if needed. Renal impairment patients: For patients with severe renal impairment, it is dosed at 1mg once daily; no dose adjustment is needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. Liver impairment patients: For patients with severe liver impairment, it is dosed at 1mg once daily.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. First, it should not be used in patients who are allergic to any ingredient or additive in this medication. Second, it is not to be given to patients with severe renal disease requiring dialysis. Third, patients with functional or structural problems in the intestines causing bowel obstruction or perforation, or those with severe inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis should not take this medication. Fourth, since this medication contains lactose, patients with genetic problems such as lactose intolerance, galactose intolerance, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Patients with severely impaired kidney function should use this medication with caution at a reduced dose. Additionally, it has not been sufficiently studied for safety in patients with severe diseases of the liver, heart, lungs, nervous system, or mental health issues, so caution is needed. Patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias or ischemic heart disease should also use it cautiously. In patients with severe liver dysfunction, it is advisable to reduce the dosage. Caution is advised when using this medication with other drugs that may affect heart rhythm. The most common side effects while taking this medication are headaches and gastrointestinal symptoms, including abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. These symptoms typically occur early in treatment and usually resolve within a few days. Other reported symptoms include dizziness, tremors, palpitations, vomiting, dyspepsia, increased urination, and fatigue. If new palpitations occur, consultation with a physician is necessary. In case of severe diarrhea, the effectiveness of oral contraceptives may be reduced, so it is advisable to use additional contraceptive methods. This medication has a low potential for interactions with other medications, but caution is needed as some potent drugs may increase blood concentrations. This is particularly important when used in conjunction with medications that may affect heart rhythm. Additionally, drugs such as atropine may reduce the effectiveness of this medication. The use of this medication is not recommended during pregnancy, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraceptive methods during treatment. Its use is also not recommended for breastfeeding women. It is advisable not to use this medication in children or adolescents under 18 years of age. In case of overdose, symptoms may include headache, nausea, and diarrhea, and appropriate treatment is necessary based on the symptoms. In cases of severe fluid loss from diarrhea or vomiting, electrolyte replenishment may be required. This medication can cause dizziness or fatigue on the first day of use, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container to avoid moisture.
