This medication is used for the prevention and sustained treatment of asthma. It also helps alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis that occur seasonally or throughout the year. Therefore, it can be effectively used in the management of asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily; however, for asthma patients, it is taken in the evening. For patients who have both asthma and allergic rhinitis, take 1 tablet, 1 pack, or 1 piece in the evening once daily. This medication should be taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 2 to 5 years should chew 4 mg once daily as montelukast. This medication should be taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which should be avoided by individuals with phenylketonuria, a hereditary disease. The daily intake limit for aspartame varies by weight, so caution is advised to not exceed 2.4g per day for an adult weighing 60kg. Individuals who are allergic to this medication or any of its components should not take it. Although the safety of this medication has been evaluated through clinical trials in various age groups including asthma and allergic rhinitis patients, rare side effects such as fatigue, headache, fever, dyspepsia, and rash may occur. Especially in asthma patients, rare symptoms of vasculitis, such as eosinophilia, may occur, and if such symptoms appear, consultation with a physician is necessary. This medication is not intended for use during acute asthma attacks; therefore, emergency inhalers must be prepared for acute symptoms. Additionally, patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not take these medications while taking this medication. If pregnant or breastfeeding, it is safest to take this medication only after consulting a doctor. It can be used in children and the elderly but proper dosages and precautions must be followed according to age. There is no specific antidote for overdose; therefore, general treatment should be sought based on symptoms, and medical attention should be obtained immediately. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers. If any neuropsychiatric symptoms or adverse reactions occur during use, inform a physician immediately, and do not stop taking or switch to other medications without a doctor's instruction.
