Prevention of asthma and relief of allergy rhinitis symptoms
This medication helps to prevent and manage asthma. It is also used to relieve symptoms caused by seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis.
This medication should be taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time is determined based on the patient's condition. For patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis, take once daily, 1 tablet, 1 packet, or 1 piece in the evening. Adults and adolescents over 15 years old should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.
This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. During treatment, rare neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur, so both patients and caregivers should pay attention to changes such as anxiety, depression, agitation, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. This medication contains an artificial sweetener called aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. This medication contains lactose; therefore, patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not use it. Common side effects may include fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, cough, and rash, and these symptoms are mostly mild and temporary. In particular, among asthma patients, rare cases of eosinophilia and vasculitis symptoms may occur, so if symptoms such as eosinophilia, skin rash, or worsening pulmonary symptoms arise, medical attention is needed. This medication is not intended for use during acute asthma attacks, so for acute symptoms, emergency medication should be used immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not use these medications while taking this drug. During pregnancy, it should be used cautiously only when necessary, and caution is also needed while breastfeeding. It is safe for children and the elderly, but consulting a doctor before administration is important. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, general treatment and observation are required, and if symptoms occur, medical personnel should be informed immediately. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers. While taking this medication, it is essential to adhere to the physician's instructions for daily intake, without abruptly stopping or arbitrarily changing to other treatments. Patients with exercise-induced asthma should continue using inhaled bronchodilators along with this medication, and should always carry a quick-relief inhaler for emergencies. If any neuropsychiatric symptoms occur during treatment, immediately inform a doctor and seek consultation.
