Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use this drug. Patients with severe renal disease should use this drug cautiously as it may increase blood concentration. Elderly patients should be administered with caution due to possible deterioration in body function. Care should be taken when used in conjunction with PDE5 inhibitors that dilate blood vessels, as there may be an enhanced blood pressure-lowering effect. Patients taking antihypertensive drugs should be careful when using this drug concomitantly due to the risk of hypotension. Patients currently on alpha-1 blockers should not generally use this drug but may require it under very careful observation if necessary. Patients with a history of urinary syncope should also generally not use this drug but may do so cautiously in special circumstances. There may be abnormalities in liver function or symptoms of jaundice, so liver health should be monitored periodically. Rarely, various abnormal reactions such as nasal congestion, nosebleeds, swelling, priapism, and visual disturbances may occur. This drug may cause blood pressure to drop too low in cases of overdose, so the dosage must be adhered to strictly. It is advisable to rise slowly to prevent blood pressure drops upon standing up. This drug is for symptom relief; if ineffective, alternative treatments should be considered. Dizziness may occur, so care should be taken when driving or performing hazardous tasks. Pregnant women or nursing mothers should not use this drug, as its safety has not been confirmed. Children under 18 years old should not use this drug as its safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly individuals should start at a lower dose and be closely monitored due to the potential for decreased kidney function.
