This medication helps prevent and manage asthma continuously. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily; patients with asthma should take it in the evening, while patients with allergic rhinitis should determine dosing time based on their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet in the evening once daily. This medication should be administered one hour before meals or two hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years: Take 5 mg of montelukast once daily by chewing. This medication should be administered one hour before meals or two hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. Abnormal neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur during use, so patients or guardians should immediately inform a physician if they experience symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria should avoid using it. Formulations containing lactose should not be administered to patients with galactose intolerance or lactose enzyme deficiency. This medication is not for use during acute asthma attacks; separate emergency medications should be used when acute symptoms occur. Do not use this medication alone for exercise-induced bronchospasm; inhaled bronchodilators should be used as needed. Patients with aspirin hypersensitivity should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while using this medication. While taking this drug, rare side effects such as eosinophilia or vasculitis may occur, necessitating medical observation. There have been no specific reports of interactions when used with other medications, but caution is advised when taken with drugs that induce liver metabolism. This medication should only be used during pregnancy when absolutely necessary, and caution is also required during breastfeeding. It can be used in children and the elderly, but safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 6 months of age. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so it is important to receive general treatment based on symptoms. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers. Strictly follow the physician's instructions during use, and if asthma symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear, consult immediately.
