This medication helps prevent and manage asthma on an ongoing basis. It is also used to alleviate symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For allergic rhinitis patients, dosing time is determined according to the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet once daily in the evening. Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and over should take 10 mg of Montelukast orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. During the use of this medication, psychiatric symptoms may arise, so patients or caregivers should inform the doctor immediately of any new mental changes such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not take it. Side effects such as fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, fever, dyspepsia, cough, nasal congestion, and rash may occur, and if symptoms are severe or persistent, medical consultation is advised. Particularly, children and the elderly can also use this medication, but care should be taken to monitor the likelihood of side effects according to age. This medication is not used as an emergency treatment for acute asthma attacks; in case of acute symptoms, a rescue inhaler should be used immediately. This medication can be used alongside other asthma medications; however, abrupt discontinuation or replacement of corticosteroids should be avoided. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not use those medications while taking this drug. In case of an overdose, there is no specific antidote, and general symptomatic treatment and medical monitoring are necessary. If pregnant or breastfeeding, consultation with a physician should be made before taking, with adequate consideration of the effects on the fetus or newborn. During the use of this medication, it should be stored in a safe place out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer contents to another container. While taking this medication, it should be adhered to daily per doctor's instructions, and any worsening or new symptoms should be immediately discussed with healthcare providers.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, severe allergic reactions, severe skin adverse reactions, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), severe systemic reactions
