This drug is used for osteoarthritis of the knee and periarthritis of the shoulder.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

As sodium hyaluronate, administer 25 mg once a week for 5 consecutive weeks intra-articularly into the knee joint or shoulder joint (shoulder joint cavity, subacromial bursa, or biceps tendon sheath). Adjust the number of administrations appropriately according to symptoms. This drug is administered intra-articularly, so it should be performed under strict aseptic conditions.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions. As it is administered intra-articularly, it should be avoided in cases of skin diseases or infections at the injection site. Caution is required for patients with liver impairments or a history of liver diseases, as liver dysfunction may occur. Patients allergic to avian protein should also not use this drug. During administration, shock or hypersensitivity reactions may occur, so symptoms must be monitored closely, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, administration should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be initiated. Temporary pain, swelling, redness, and warmth may occur at the injection site, so attention should be paid to these symptoms. Symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fever, and headache may also appear, so it is important to monitor the overall condition of the body. In cases of severe joint inflammation, it is preferable to reduce the inflammation before administering this drug. After administration, the joint area should be stabilized, and care should be taken to prevent the drug from leaking out of the joint. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis or gout may experience temporary exacerbation of inflammation, so caution should be exercised. It is advisable to avoid vigorous exercise or prolonged weight-bearing activities within 48 hours after administration. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been confirmed when used in conjunction with other intra-articular injectables, so they should not be used together. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should carefully weigh the benefits and risks of using this drug, and it is advisable to avoid use while breastfeeding. Safety has not been established in pediatric patients, so it should only be used cautiously when absolutely necessary. Elderly patients may have reduced bodily function, so they should be used with particular caution. Injection should be performed under strict aseptic conditions, and if symptoms do not improve, limit the number of administrations to five. In cases of excessive joint fluid, it is advisable to aspirate the fluid before administration. This drug is not for intravenous use or ophthalmic use. During injection, an appropriately sized syringe needle should be used, and the ampoule should be shaken to ensure the solution is homogeneously mixed before slowly withdrawing it into the syringe. When cutting the ampoule, it is safer to clean it thoroughly before cutting to prevent foreign substances from entering. Caution should be taken when using with disinfectants such as benzalkonium chloride or chlorhexidine, as precipitates may form. This drug is for single use, and any unused portion should be discarded immediately after opening.
