Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure (left ventricular dysfunction)
This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It is also used as an adjunct treatment for patients with heart failure who have impaired left ventricular systolic function, especially when the use of ACE inhibitors is inadequate or not well tolerated. Through this effect, it helps improve heart function and prevent the worsening of symptoms.
For essential hypertension, the recommended oral dose of Candesartan Cilexetil is 8 to 16 mg once daily. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled after 4 weeks of treatment with 16 mg once daily, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 32 mg once daily. The initial dose for patients with intravascular volume depletion or renal impairment is 4 mg, and for those with liver impairment, it starts at 2 mg once daily. The initial dose for heart failure is 4 mg once daily.
The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been established.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. This drug should not be used in specific patient populations such as pregnant women, nursing mothers, patients with severe liver impairment, or hereditary angioedema patients. Caution should be exercised when administering to elderly persons or patients with hyperkalemia, liver impairment, or heart disease, and blood pressure and kidney function should be regularly monitored. This medication may cause side effects such as dizziness, back pain, and respiratory infections. In heart failure patients, adverse reactions such as hypotension or kidney function impairment may occur. It is important to regularly check serum potassium and creatinine levels to prevent hyperkalemia or worsening kidney function. Caution is particularly needed when this drug is combined with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or lithium preparations, as the risk of side effects increases. It is advisable to stop the medication 24 hours before surgical procedures, and blood pressure changes should be closely monitored in hemodialysis patients. Because dizziness or malaise may occur, caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been established, and it is preferable not to use it in this age group. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and tachycardia may occur, and prompt appropriate treatment and monitoring are required. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to other containers for safety.
