This medication is used to clean the bowels before a colon X-ray examination or endoscopy. It helps facilitate a more accurate examination and is effective in removing residual matter from the intestines. It can be used safely as a pre-treatment for examinations, supporting a comfortable procedure.

How to take

Adult dose

The prepared solution is taken as follows: 1) Split dosing method (2-day dosing schedule): On the evening before the colonoscopy, take the first dose (Dose 1) prepared solution of 500 mL over 30 minutes, followed by an additional 500 mL of water over the next 30 minutes. On the next morning, take the second dose (Dose 2 (A + B preparations)) prepared solution of 500 mL over 30 minutes, followed by an additional 500 mL of water over the next 30 minutes.

Precautions

This medication may rarely cause generalized tonic-clonic seizures even in patients without a history of seizures, so caution is necessary in cases of electrolyte imbalance. Particular care should be taken when taking this medication with other drugs that may cause electrolyte imbalance, and necessary blood tests should be performed to check sodium, potassium levels, etc. This medication should not be used in patients with serious bowel diseases such as bowel obstruction, gastrointestinal perforation, or toxic colitis, and should be administered with caution in patients with severe ulcerative colitis. The artificial sweetener aspartame included in this medication is broken down into phenylalanine, thus it should not be taken by patients with phenylketonuria. In patients with heart problems or at high risk for electrolyte imbalances, this medication may very rarely cause serious arrhythmias, hence caution is necessary. Patients who are allergic to this medication or have gastrointestinal obstruction, perforation, heart failure, or severe bowel diseases should not take this medication. In addition, it should not be administered to children under 18 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients, frail patients, or those with impaired vomiting reflex should use this medication cautiously, and particularly careful attention should be paid in patients with severely impaired kidney function or heart disease. After taking this medication, side effects such as vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dehydration, and fatigue may occur, and in rare cases, serious allergic reactions or problems related to the heart and kidneys may occur. While taking this medication, bowel movements should be closely monitored, and if abdominal bloating or pain worsens, medical advice should be sought immediately. This medication contains sodium and potassium, hence patients who need to limit these ingredients should be cautious. Also, taking other oral medications within 1 hour before and after taking this medication can affect absorption, so timing should be adjusted. Pregnant women are advised to avoid using this medication, and lactating women should weigh the benefits of taking this medication against breastfeeding before making a decision. In the case of overdose, severe diarrhea may occur, thus adequate hydration and electrolyte correction may be necessary. This medication should be taken immediately after preparation, and any remaining solution should be discarded within 24 hours.
