This medication is used to prevent and continuously treat asthma. It also helps relieve symptoms of seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it is effective for managing asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 and older take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily. This medication should be taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 chew and take 5 mg of montelukast once daily. This medication should be taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. Children aged 2 to 5 take montelukast once daily;

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. Neurological or psychiatric symptoms may occur while taking this medication, so if there are any new behavioral changes or thoughts of suicide, consult a doctor immediately. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria should avoid it. It contains lactose, so patients with hereditary conditions such as galactose intolerance should not use it. This medication is not used for acute asthma attacks, and separate emergency medication should be prepared for acute symptoms. Patients who are hypersensitive to aspirin should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while taking this medication. Long-term use does not significantly change the incidence of adverse reactions, but side effects like dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, and rash may occur. Use during pregnancy should be done only when necessary, and caution is needed while breastfeeding. Children and elderly patients can also use it, but variations in response due to age should be considered. There are no specific antidotes for overdose, so general symptom management and monitoring are necessary. This medication has a low risk of drug interactions when used in conjunction with other asthma medications. Store in a location out of reach of children, and do not transfer to different containers.
