Improvement in blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is particularly administered to patients who are receiving drug therapy for the first time or who find it difficult to control their blood sugar levels with monotherapy. It also assists in improving blood sugar control when used in combination with metformin or other diabetes medications. This medication is designed to effectively manage blood sugar according to various treatment regimens presented, thereby maintaining blood sugar levels more stable and improving diabetes management.
This medication is administered twice daily with meals. 1. If currently not treated with metformin: Take this medication 2.5/500 mg twice a day, 1 tablet at a time, and it may be increased to 2.5/1000 mg twice a day, 1 tablet at a time. 2. If insufficient blood sugar control with metformin monotherapy: Administer linagliptin 2.5 mg twice daily and the existing dose of metformin. 3.
This medication may lead to a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis due to the active ingredient metformin hydrochloride, so caution is warranted. In particular, it should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or those with type 1 diabetes, lactic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with severely impaired renal function or those in conditions that could lead to acute renal impairment may also face risks when using this medication. Avoid administering this medication to patients with liver dysfunction or severe gastrointestinal disturbances such as dehydration, vomiting, or diarrhea. It is advisable for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication, and those planning to conceive should consult a physician. This medication can induce hypoglycemia, so blood sugar should be closely monitored, especially when used together with insulin or sulfonylureas. Due to the risk of lactic acidosis, renal function, liver function, and heart function should be regularly monitored, and medical personnel should be informed immediately if conditions worsen. When undergoing radiographic examinations using iodinated contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued for a certain period before and after the tests, and can be resumed once renal function is stabilized. This medication should also be temporarily discontinued before and after surgery and should be restarted based on the physician's discretion after recovery. During treatment, acute pancreatitis or skin diseases such as bullous pemphigoid may occur, and if any such symptoms arise, a physician should be informed immediately, and the medication should be discontinued. Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, so regular monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is essential if symptoms occur or risk factors are present. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is crucial to inform the physician or pharmacist about any other medications being taken. The elderly often experience decreased renal function, necessitating dose adjustments and regular renal function monitoring. The safety and effectiveness of this medication have not been sufficiently confirmed in pediatric patients, so it is advisable not to use it in children. In case of overdose, severe symptoms such as lactic acidosis may occur, requiring immediate medical attention.
