Relief of allergic symptoms such as allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and chronic urticaria
This medication is used for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and skin pruritus. Additionally, it helps alleviate symptoms when used with hydrocortisone topical preparation for treating eczema and dermatitis. It is effective in improving major allergic symptoms and skin inflammation.
Adults and children over 6 years should take 10mg of cetirizine hydrochloride orally once daily before bedtime. Patients sensitive to side effects may take 5mg divided into morning and evening doses. In patients with renal impairment, dosing intervals and amounts should be adjusted based on kidney function. (Oral solution) Adults and children over 12 years should take 10mg orally once daily. In adults with impaired kidney function, dosing should be adjusted based on creatinine clearance.
Children over 6 years should take the same dose as adults, which is 10mg orally once daily. (Oral solution) For children aged 2-12 years, the dosage varies based on weight. - Weight 30kg or more: 10mg once daily.
This medication should not be taken by individuals who are allergic or hypersensitive to certain ingredients. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or children under 6 years old should not use this medication. Individuals with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should also avoid this medication as it contains lactose. It is essential not to take this medication with certain other drugs. For example, co-administration with theophylline or ritonavir may alter the drug’s efficacy or concentration. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption while taking this medication as it may affect the central nervous system. Patients with reduced kidney or liver function, elderly individuals, epilepsy patients, and pregnant or nursing women must consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medication. In particular, elderly patients with reduced kidney function may experience increased drug concentration, so dosing should start low and be adjusted according to their condition. For pregnant women, while there is no clear evidence of risk, caution is advised. Nursing mothers should be careful as this medication may be excreted in breast milk and could affect the baby. Overdosing on this medication may cause confusion, drowsiness, headaches, vomiting, increased heart rate, and other side effects, requiring appropriate treatment based on symptoms as there is no specific antidote. During treatment, various side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, dyspepsia, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities may occur, so immediate consultation with a specialist is necessary if abnormal symptoms arise. Additionally, it is advisable to stop taking this medication before allergy tests, and caution is needed during driving or operating machinery. Lastly, store this medication out of reach of children and keep it in its original container to preserve its safety and efficacy.
