Improvement of chronic constipation symptoms
This medication is used to treat chronic constipation symptoms in adults who have not responded to laxative treatment. It effectively helps patients experiencing discomfort due to chronic constipation, improving bowel activity.
This medication is taken orally and can be administered at any time of the day without regard to meals. Adults should take 2mg once daily. For elderly patients aged 65 and older, the initial dose is 1mg once daily, which may be increased to 2mg once daily if necessary. For patients with severe renal impairment and severe liver impairment, 1mg once daily should be administered. There is no need for dosage adjustment in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment and liver impairment.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Individuals who are allergic to the active ingredient or excipients of this medication, those with severely impaired renal function requiring dialysis, and those with serious structural abnormalities or inflammation of the intestine should not take this medication. Also, this medication contains lactose, and individuals with genetic disorders that prevent lactose digestion should avoid it. Patients with severe renal impairment should take this medication cautiously at a reduced dosage. Special care is required for those with severe diseases of the heart, liver, lungs, or nervous system. In particular, those with a history of cardiac arrhythmia or ischemic cardiovascular disease should be careful when taking this medication. The use of this medication may frequently result in gastrointestinal symptoms such as headaches, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. These symptoms usually occur at the beginning of treatment and often resolve naturally over time. Dizziness, fatigue, and palpitations have also been reported, and if these symptoms are severe, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider. In case of severe diarrhea, the effectiveness of oral contraceptives may be reduced, so the use of additional contraceptive methods is recommended. This medication has relatively fewer interactions with other drugs, but caution is required when taken with certain medications. In particular, taking it with drugs that prolong the QTc interval may affect the heart, so caution is warranted. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding have limited experience with this medication, so its use during pregnancy is not recommended. Women of childbearing potential must use effective contraceptive methods during treatment. It is also advised that breastfeeding women avoid this medication as it may be secreted in breast milk. The use of this medication is not recommended for children or adolescents under the age of 18. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, and diarrhea may occur, and treatment should be administered according to the symptoms. In particular, fluid loss due to diarrhea or vomiting may require electrolyte replenishment. This medication may cause dizziness or fatigue at the start of treatment, so caution should be taken when performing tasks that require alertness, such as driving or operating machinery. When storing, it is important to keep it out of the reach of children and store it in its original container to prevent moisture exposure.
