This medication is used to treat chronic constipation symptoms in adult patients who do not improve after using laxatives.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered orally and can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of meals. Adults: 1 dose of 2 mg once a day. Elderly patients (over 65 years old): An initial dose of 1 mg once a day may be given, and if necessary, increased to 2 mg once a day. In patients with severe renal impairment, 1 mg once a day is administered; dosage adjustment is not required for mild to moderate renal impairment. For patients with hepatic impairment, among other conditions, refined dosage specifications are discussed.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to the active ingredient or excipients of this medication, patients with severely impaired kidney function, and patients with serious intestinal problems may be at risk when taking this medication. Moreover, patients with a genetic problem that prevents lactose digestion should not take this medication. Patients with severely impaired kidney function should carefully use this medication in a reduced dose. Patients with severe diseases in the liver, heart, lungs, or nervous system also need to take caution when using this medication. Notably, patients with a history of arrhythmias or ischemic heart disease should take this medication carefully, and patients with severely impaired liver function should use it at a reduced dose. Caution is also required when this medication is taken with other drugs that can cause QT interval prolongation. Taking this medication may commonly lead to gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea, which usually occur early in treatment and resolve over time. Additionally, symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and palpitations have also been reported; if these symptoms occur, consultation with a physician is recommended. Severe diarrhea may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, so it is advisable to use additional contraceptive methods. This medication has a low potential for interactions with other drugs, but caution is needed when taken with certain medications. Use of this medication during pregnancy is not recommended, and effective contraceptive methods should be used during its use. Use of this medication is also not recommended for breastfeeding women. It is advisable not to use this medication in children or adolescents under 18 years of age. Overdose may lead to symptoms such as headache, nausea, and diarrhea, and appropriate treatment should be applied according to symptoms. Caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or fatigue may occur. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is recommended to store it in its original container, avoiding moisture.
