This medication is used for the treatment of diseases caused by excessive gastric acid secretion, such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It also helps alleviate the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux and prevent Mendelson's syndrome when administered prior to anesthesia. It is effective in preventing postoperative ulcers and treating gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication improves the symptoms of patients with various gastrointestinal-related diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Generally, administer 1 tablet orally twice daily before breakfast and before bedtime, irrespective of meals. 1) Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers Administer 1 tablet twice daily or 2 tablets once daily before bedtime. In particular, for patients with duodenal ulcers, administering 2 tablets twice daily before breakfast and bedtime may achieve a higher treatment rate. 2) Gastroesophageal Reflux Administer 1 tablet twice daily for 8 weeks or 2 tablets once daily before bedtime.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis. Patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its ingredients should avoid administration. Patients with a history of acute porphyria should not use this medication as it may exacerbate symptoms. It is considered safe not to administer this medication to patients with impaired renal function. Patients with a history of upper gastrointestinal surgeries should consult healthcare professionals before taking this medication. It is advisable for pregnant women or women who may become pregnant to avoid taking this medication. It is preferable not to use this medication in premature infants or newborns as its safety has not been established. Patients on potassium-restricted diets need to exercise caution when taking this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or a history of drug allergies should use this medication carefully. Elderly patients or those with a history of renal dysfunction should be closely monitored when using this medication. Patients taking NSAIDs together may be at risk for gastrointestinal bleeding and require periodic testing. This medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer; thus, patients with gastric ulcers or those experiencing newly developed dyspepsia symptoms who are middle-aged or older should confirm the absence of malignancy before taking it. Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric or duodenal ulcers should undergo bacterial eradication therapy concurrently. Patients who are severely ill, have hypophosphatemia, or are experiencing dysphagia may experience complications when using this medication and should exercise caution. Allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock, skin rashes, and angioedema may occur while on this medication; if any symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately and inform healthcare professionals. If blood tests reveal leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or abnormalities, discontinue this medication immediately. If liver dysfunction or jaundice symptoms occur, stop taking the medication and consult a healthcare professional. Cardiovascular side effects, such as arrhythmia or vasculitis, may rarely occur; therefore, patients should be monitored closely. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and stool color may change, although this typically is not a concern. Neuropsychiatric symptoms may include dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, headache, insomnia, and if any unusual symptoms arise, notify healthcare professionals. Muscle pain, joint pain, or, rarely, severe muscle damage symptoms may occur; if any symptoms arise, immediate discontinuation of the drug is required. Skin reactions such as rashes, hair loss, and itching may occur. Long-term use is not recommended; if therapeutic effects are absent, a switch to a different medication should be considered. Elderly patients or those with chronic conditions may have an increased risk of developing pneumonia and should be exercised caution. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this medication, avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if any other medications are being taken, healthcare professionals should be informed. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication for safety. Safety in children has not been established, and it is advisable not to use it in this population. In case of overdose, emergency measures such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in severe cases, hemodialysis may be required. This medication may reduce gastric acid secretion, potentially increasing bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract; therefore, ophthalmologic examinations may be necessary if used long-term.
