This medicine is used to prevent and continuously treat asthma, and it helps to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet, one packet, or one strip in the evening.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years should take 5 mg of montelukast once daily, chewing or placing it on the tongue to dissolve without water, administered 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Children aged 2 to 5 years...

Precautions

This drug is used to treat respiratory diseases such as asthma or allergic rhinitis. Neurological and psychiatric symptoms may occur during treatment, so patients and caregivers should be attentive to behavioral changes such as restlessness, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts. If any of these symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. Additionally, due to the lactose contained in this medication, patients with galactose intolerance or lactose deficiency should not take it. Common side effects include fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, cough, and rash, and rare reports of liver dysfunction or skin reactions have also been noted. This drug is not intended to be used during an acute asthma attack; when acute symptoms occur, an emergency inhaler must be used. This drug may be used with other asthma medications, but sudden discontinuation or replacement of corticosteroid preparations should be avoided. Patients with aspirin hypersensitivity should not use aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while taking this medication. It should only be used during pregnancy when absolutely necessary, and caution is also needed while breastfeeding. It can be used in children and elderly patients, but dosage adjustments based on age and safety should be followed according to a doctor's instructions. In the event of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, general treatment and observation are necessary.
