Precautions

This drug, being a beta-lactam antibiotic, should not be administered to patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillin and cephalosporin. Patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia are at higher risk of rashes and should be monitored closely. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice due to this drug or penicillin drugs should not use it. Patients with impaired liver function or moderate to severe renal impairment should use it with caution and adjust the dosage interval as drug concentration may increase. Patients with allergic tendencies or those with symptoms such as bronchial asthma or urticaria should also be cautious. Elderly patients and those in poor general health are at risk for bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency and should be monitored. This medication may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain; it must be discontinued immediately if severe symptoms occur. Liver function abnormalities may also occur, particularly in men over 60, necessitating regular liver function tests. Severe skin reactions such as rashes, itching, and in severe cases, Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, requiring immediate consultation with a healthcare provider. Blood disorders such as leukopenia and thrombocytopenia may rarely develop, warranting blood monitoring. Central nervous system reactions including anxiety, confusion, and seizures have been reported, thus caution is needed in patients with renal impairment or those on high doses. Acute renal failure or nephritis may occur, so if symptoms of renal dysfunction appear, administration must be halted immediately. This medication can cause vitamin K deficiency symptoms, thus patients with bleeding tendencies should be cautious and those on anticoagulants should monitor coagulation status regularly. It should be avoided in the first three months of pregnancy, and pregnant or nursing women should use it cautiously after consulting a doctor. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg, as there is limited experience. Due to many drug interactions, patients should consult with a doctor or pharmacist when taking this drug with others, particularly anticoagulants, gout medication, and antibiotics. Overdose may lead to gastrointestinal symptoms, kidney issues, or central nervous system abnormalities, thus immediate medical attention should be sought.
