Prevention of osteoporosis and vertebral fractures in postmenopausal women
This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is particularly effective in reducing the occurrence of vertebral fractures, although its efficacy for non-vertebral fractures has not been conclusively proven. Therefore, it primarily helps to lower the risk of vertebral-related fractures.
Take 1 tablet (20 mg as Bazedoxifene) once daily regardless of meals.
This medication is designed for use only in postmenopausal women. Taking this medication may increase the risk of venous thromboembolism, which is the formation of blood clots in the veins. This risk is particularly heightened in the first year of treatment, so caution is required. Women at high risk of thrombosis, such as older adults, those who are overweight, those who have prolonged periods of immobility, those recovering from surgery, or those with cancer, should avoid this medication. During long travels, it is also important to regularly move to prevent clots. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and those with allergies to this medication or its ingredients should not take this medication. Individuals with unexplained uterine bleeding or symptoms of endometrial cancer should also refrain from using this medication. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with lactose intolerance or certain genetic disorders should avoid taking it. Those with high triglyceride levels or issues with kidney or liver function should use this medication cautiously. Drowsiness or vision disturbances may occur while taking this medication, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. This medication has relatively few significant interactions with other drugs; however, when used with certain medications metabolized by the liver, drug concentrations may change, so consulting a specialist is necessary. In the event of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be symptomatic. Keep out of reach of children, and it is safer to keep the medication in its original container. Some side effects or adverse reactions may occur with long-term use of this medication, so if bleeding or severe side effects occur during use, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary.
