Treatment of digestive disorders such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, and gastritis
This medicine is used to treat ulcers that occur in the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, and conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It also alleviates the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and is used to prevent Mendelson's syndrome when administered before anesthesia. It is effective in the prevention and treatment of ulcers that may occur post-operation, and it is also used for gastric and duodenal ulcers induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication is helpful for various gastrointestinal diseases, protects the gastric mucosa, and improves symptoms.
Usually taken orally, 1 tablet twice a day in the morning and before bedtime, regardless of meals. 1) For gastric and duodenal ulcers, administer 1 tablet twice a day or 2 tablets once daily before bedtime. Particularly for patients with duodenal ulcers, taking 2 tablets twice a day in the morning and before bedtime can achieve a higher treatment rate. Preventive and therapeutic measures against ulcers induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration can also use the same dosage. Generally, diseases due to the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs resolve within 4 to 8 weeks, although healing times may be prolonged for some patients. For recurrent ulcer patients who have shown excellent responses to short-term therapy with this medication, a maintenance therapy of 1 tablet once daily at bedtime is recommended. 2) For gastroesophageal reflux disease, administer 1 tablet twice a day for 8 weeks or 2 tablets once daily before bedtime. However, in severe gastroesophageal reflux patients, the dosage can be increased to 2 tablets four times a day. 3) For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, treatment begins at an initial dose of 1 tablet three times a day, with dose adjustments as necessary. In severe cases, dosing may rise to 6 g of ranitidine daily according to the physician's instructions. 4) For upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to peptic ulcers, acute stress ulcers, or acute mucosal lesions, change from intravenous to oral administration whenever possible, providing 1 tablet twice a day. 5) Pre-anesthesia dosing (to prevent Mendelson's syndrome) involves administering 1 tablet 2 hours prior to anesthesia induction. It is also beneficial to take 1 tablet the night before surgery.
This medication should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. Individuals who have shown allergic reactions to this drug or its components should not use it. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of rare disorders such as acute porphyria, as this drug may exacerbate symptoms. This medication is also not recommended for patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women, or neonates and premature infants. Patients following a potassium-restricted diet should also avoid this medication. Careful administration is required in patients with compromised liver function, those with a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, and patients with renal impairment. When taken in conjunction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, special caution is necessary and regular observation by a physician is required. This medication may conceal symptoms of gastric cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or those over middle age who have recently experienced new or changed indigestion symptoms should confirm the absence of malignant diseases before use. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori require bacterial eradication therapy. Special caution is necessary for severely ill patients in intensive care, patients with hypophosphatemia, and patients with swallowing difficulties. If symptoms such as shock, severe allergic reactions, skin rashes, urticaria, or respiratory distress occur while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately and medical consultation sought. Blood tests may reveal leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or liver function abnormalities, so if abnormal symptoms arise, the hospital should be informed immediately. Neurological symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and seizures may also occur, though rarely, so careful observation is required. It is safest for pregnant women and nursing mothers not to take this medication, and it is not recommended for children as safety and efficacy have not been established. This medication should not be used for long periods, and if it does not have a therapeutic effect, alternative medications should be considered. If dizziness or drowsiness is experienced while taking this medication, driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. Interactions with other medications may occur, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform the physician or pharmacist, particularly regarding adjustments needed when taking anticoagulants or certain antibiotics. In cases of overdose, emergency measures such as inducing vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in some cases, blood dialysis may be required. Lastly, this medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the stomach, so regular check-ups, including eye examinations, are recommended during long-term use.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly closed container. The recommended storage temperature is room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the drug's effectiveness and safety over time.
