Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients who have allergies to specific drugs or ingredients, or who have hypersensitivity reactions in combination with certain antibiotics. It is also not safe for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Care should be taken in administering this medication to patients with impaired liver function, the elderly, and those with a history of drug hypersensitivity reactions. During the use of this medication, hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash or itching may occur, and if these symptoms occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Blood tests may show changes in red or white blood cell counts, and regular testing is necessary. Liver function tests should also be performed regularly, and if symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice occur, the medication should be discontinued. Watch for potential cardiovascular symptoms or abnormal blood pressure, headaches, and neurological symptoms such as dizziness. Gastrointestinal side effects such as indigestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur. Respiratory symptoms such as cough or difficulty breathing may also be present, so consult a healthcare professional if these symptoms arise. Various side effects including muscle pain, joint pain, skin rash, and hair loss may occur. Reports of visual or auditory disturbances have also been noted, so report any changes in sight or hearing. This medication inhibits gastric acid secretion, so long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures, and magnesium levels may decrease requiring regular blood tests. Additionally, there may be a slight increase in the risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infection, so if diarrhea persists, inform a healthcare professional immediately. This medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. There may be drug interactions, so inform your doctor of any other medications being taken. Caution is particularly necessary when taken in conjunction with antibiotics or antiviral medications.
