This medication helps prevent and treat asthma continuously. It also has the effect of alleviating symptoms of allergic rhinitis that occur seasonally or throughout the year. Therefore, it is used to manage asthma symptoms and reduce discomfort caused by allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 and over take Montelukast 10 mg once daily orally. Additionally, the 10 mg orally disintegrating film is to be taken as 10 mg once daily placed on the tongue to dissolve without water. The medication should be taken once daily; for patients with asthma, it should be taken in the evening.

Child dose

Children aged 6-14 take Montelukast 5 mg once daily, chewable or placed on the tongue to dissolve without water. Additionally, the 5 mg orally disintegrating film is to be taken as 5 mg once daily placed on the tongue.

Precautions

This drug is used for the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis. During treatment, neuropsychiatric symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts may occur, so caution should be taken. If new neuropsychiatric symptoms or behavioral changes occur, contact your doctor immediately, and if necessary, discontinue the medication. Patients with allergies to this drug or its components should not take it. Fatigue, abdominal pain, headache, nasal congestion, cough, rash, and other adverse reactions may occur after taking this medication; if symptoms are severe, consult your doctor. This drug is not for the use during acute asthma attacks, so you should always have an emergency inhaler with you. It should not be used alone to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm; inhaled beta-agonists should continue to be used. Those who are hypersensitive to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid taking those medications during the use of this drug. Serious side effects such as vasculitis, blood abnormalities, and liver function anomalies may rarely occur, so regular monitoring according to the doctor's instructions is necessary. Pregnant women must consult their doctor before taking this, and caution is required while breastfeeding. The safety for infants under 6 months has not been established, so use with caution. There are no specific detoxification methods for overdose; generally symptomatic treatment is recommended. This medication is sensitive to light; therefore, it should be taken immediately after opening and stored out of reach of children. Always adhere strictly to the doctor's instructions while taking this medication, and if asthma symptoms worsen or unusual reactions occur, consult healthcare personnel immediately.
