Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy of amlodipine or olmesartan medoxomil. It is to be taken additionally when existing treatments are insufficient to lower blood pressure effectively. Properly controlling blood pressure helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
This medication is taken once daily, one tablet, with water regardless of meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). The recommended dosages are as follows: - 5/20 mg: For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy of amlodipine 5 mg or olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg. - 10/20 mg: For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg monotherapy.
Safety and efficacy have not been established for pediatric patients under 18 years of age.
This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn when taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with a history of allergy to this drug's active ingredients or other medications in the same class, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver disease or aortic stenosis, patients with bile duct obstruction, patients on renal dialysis, patients in shock, and certain diabetes patients should not take this medication. Hypotensive patients with insufficient fluid or salt should be closely monitored upon initial administration of this medication as blood pressure may drop excessively. If hypotension occurs, the patient should be laid down, and saline may be administered if necessary. Patients with cardiac or vascular issues should be cautious as rapid dilation of blood vessels may lead to hypotension. Heart failure patients should have their cardiac status monitored carefully when taking this medication, and patients with impaired kidney function need special caution. Patients with liver disease may have slower metabolism of this medication, so careful monitoring is required during administration. Patients may experience side effects such as dizziness, headache, hypotension, swelling, gastrointestinal disturbances, etc., while taking this medication. They should consult healthcare professionals if any abnormal symptoms occur. Particularly, this medication can interact with other drugs, so it is crucial to inform healthcare providers of any other medications being taken, and it is advisable to avoid taking it with grapefruit juice. Use of this medication during pregnancy should be avoided, and it is recommended that if pregnancy is planned or confirmed, a discussion with a physician regarding safe alternative medications be conducted. Breastfeeding women should consider the possibility of this medication being transmitted through breast milk and may need to stop breastfeeding or discontinue its use due to potential side effects in infants. Safety and efficacy have not been established for pediatric patients under 18 years of age. In elderly patients, reduced kidney and liver function may slow drug metabolism, so starting with a lower dose and carefully adjusting dosage is advised. In cases of overdose, blood pressure may drop excessively, and heart rate may increase; immediate medical attention is necessary.
