Rarely, there may also be pigmentation of the rectal mucosa. If diarrhea is severe, dehydration and electrolyte imbalance may occur; if these symptoms appear, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a physician. Careful observation for signs of liver damage is required, especially when combining this medication with other drugs that may put a burden on the liver. It is also advisable to limit alcohol consumption while taking this medication. If there is an increase in liver enzymes or signs of liver damage, discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention. Taking this medication with antacids containing calcium, magnesium, or aluminum, or with salt may interfere with its absorption, so it is recommended to space out the doses by more than 2 hours. Taking it with diuretics may enhance diuretic effects, thus posing a risk of dehydration and hypokalemia; caution is required. Furthermore, taking it with heart medications like cardiac glycosides may increase the risk of arrhythmias, so be careful. Pregnant women should avoid taking this medication as it may affect fetal bone formation, and breastfeeding women should also avoid it since the medication can be transmitted through breast milk.
