This medication helps prevent and continuously treat asthma. It is also effective in alleviating the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it is used for managing asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily; asthma patients should take it in the evening, while patients with allergic rhinitis should determine the administration time based on their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet, 1 packet, or 1 piece in the evening once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years: Chew and take 5 mg of Montelukast once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication is used to prevent and treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. During treatment, neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur; if symptoms such as restlessness, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts arise, consult a physician immediately. This medication contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener, and should be avoided by patients with phenylketonuria, a genetic disorder. Do not use this medication in cases of hypersensitivity, and reports of adverse reactions during treatment include headache, dizziness, digestive disorders, and rash. This medication is not effective for acute asthma attacks; therefore, always keep an emergency inhaler on hand. When using with other asthma medications, follow a physician's instructions and avoid sudden changes in medication. Patients allergic to aspirin should refrain from using aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while taking this medication. Consult a physician before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and exercise caution when administering to children and the elderly. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, appropriate treatment according to symptoms is essential. Store this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to another container for safety.
