This medication helps to prevent and manage asthma continuously. It is also used to relieve the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily in the evening for asthma patients. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time is determined based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet, one packet, or one piece in the evening, once daily. Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and over should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.

Precautions

This medicine is used to prevent and alleviate symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis. While taking this medicine, significant neuropsychiatric adverse symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts may occur, so patients and caregivers must immediately inform their doctor if these symptoms develop. This medicine contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with the genetic condition phenylketonuria should restrict its use. This medication should not be taken if there is an allergic reaction or hypersensitivity to any ingredient in this medication. Furthermore, formulations containing lactose should not be administered to patients with genetic metabolic disorders such as galactose intolerance or lactase deficiency. This medication is not to be used as a treatment for acute asthma attacks; appropriate emergency medication should be used in case of acute symptoms. It should not be used alone for exercise-induced bronchospasm; inhaled beta-agonists should be used as needed in conjunction. Patients with aspirin sensitivity should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while on this medication. Long-term use of this medication does not show significant changes in the incidence of adverse reactions, but various side effects such as fever, headache, abdominal pain, cough, rash may occur, so caution is advised. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only take this medication when absolutely necessary and must consult with a doctor before deciding. Children and elderly patients can also use this medication, but dosage and administration should differ based on age and should be guided by a healthcare professional. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so general symptom relief and monitoring are necessary. Finally, it is important to keep this medication out of the reach of children and not to transfer it to another container.
