Treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms, etc.
This medicine is used for the treatment of ulcers and erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease occurring in the stomach and duodenum. It also relieves the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and is effective for long-term maintenance therapy. For patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori, it is used in combination with antibiotics. It is also helpful in conditions of excessive gastric acid secretion such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is used to treat a variety of gastrointestinal diseases and relieve symptoms.
Typically, rabeprazole sodium is administered orally to adults once daily at a dose of 10 mg. Depending on the symptoms, it may be administered orally at a dose of 20 mg once daily. Typically, it is given for up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and up to 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If untreated, an additional dose of 10 mg or 20 mg for another 8 weeks may be considered.
The safety for pediatric patients has not been established.
This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to certain ingredients or benzimidazole derivatives. Caution is also required if there is an allergy to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients with poor liver function or elderly patients should be more cautious when using this medication. If allergic reactions such as skin rash or itching occur during treatment, the medication should be discontinued immediately. It is important to have regular blood tests or liver function tests to detect adverse reactions early. Various side effects can occur in various body systems such as the heart, gastrointestinal, and nervous system, so consulting with medical professionals is advisable if symptoms occur. There is a risk of side effects such as osteoporosis or hypomagnesemia with long-term use, hence routine checks are necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, caution should especially be exercised when taking it with antibiotics, antiviral agents, anticoagulants, etc. Caution is advised as drowsiness may occur while driving or operating machinery. Do not chew or crush this medication; it should be swallowed whole, and it should be stored out of children's reach. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and one should seek appropriate treatment at a medical facility immediately. For long-term usage of this medication, it is safe to take the minimum effective dose for the appropriate duration as directed by a physician.
