Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (erosive esophagitis, symptoms) and eradication of Helicobacter pylori (duodenal ulcer), treatment and prevention of gastric ulcers related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics.
This medication is used to treat various gastrointestinal disorders. It is effective for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive reflux esophagitis, as well as for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence. It is also used to treat and prevent recurrence in patients with duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. Additionally, it helps to relieve upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and treats and prevents gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It is also applied for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding of gastric or duodenal ulcers after intravenous administration. Thus, it is used to alleviate symptoms and prevent recurrence across various gastrointestinal disorders.
This medication must be swallowed with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If not treated or symptoms persist, another 4 weeks of treatment is necessary. - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence: 20 mg once daily. - Symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: once daily with 20 mg.
Adolescents aged 12 and older - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If not treated or symptoms persist, another 4 weeks of treatment is necessary. - Gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis
This medication should not be administered to patients who have hypersensitivity to its specific components or to benzimidazoles or who have experienced such reactions in the past. Also, when used in combination with amoxicillin or clarithromycin for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, patients with hypersensitivity to these antibiotics should not use this medication. This medication cannot be used in combination with certain cardiovascular drugs or antivirals, and should be avoided by nursing women or patients with a history of myocardial infarction. While taking this medication, various side effects such as decreased blood cell counts, allergic reactions, nervous system symptoms, gastrointestinal issues, liver function abnormalities, skin rashes, etc., may occur, so consult with a healthcare professional immediately if any abnormal symptoms arise. Regular examinations are needed for prolonged use of this medication, particularly because magnesium levels may decrease, so periodic monitoring is recommended. Since this medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, it may increase bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract, so if diarrhea or infection symptoms persist, a hospital visit should be made immediately. Additionally, this medication has a high possibility of interacting with other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist, particularly when taken with drugs affecting blood coagulation or antivirals. Data on the safety of this medication during pregnancy is limited, so it should be taken cautiously during pregnancy, and it is advisable not to use it while nursing. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so appropriate treatment according to symptoms must be obtained, and it should be stored in a safe place out of reach of children.
