This medication helps to prevent the occurrence of asthma and manage symptoms through continuous treatment. It is also used to relieve uncomfortable symptoms caused by seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, with asthma patients taking it in the evening and allergic rhinitis patients determining the dosing time according to their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet, 1 packet, or 1 strip in the evening once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14: Chew 5 mg of montelukast once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. During the use of this medication, neurological and psychiatric symptoms may occur, so if symptoms such as restlessness, depression, anxiety, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts appear, inform your doctor immediately. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, and patients with the hereditary condition phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. For formulations containing lactose, patients with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. This medication is not an emergency treatment for acute asthma attacks, so appropriate emergency medications must be on hand and used during acute symptoms. Do not suddenly stop or replace other asthma treatments while taking this medication; adjustments should be made gradually under the guidance of a physician. Patients with an aspirin hypersensitivity should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while using this medication. No special interactions have been reported with other medications; however, monitoring may be needed when taken with certain drugs. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, this medication should be used cautiously only when necessary, and breastfeeding mothers should take care while taking it. Children and the elderly can also use this medication, but dosages and administration methods may differ by age, so follow the doctor’s instructions. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so if symptoms occur, go to the hospital immediately for appropriate treatment. Store this medication in a safe place out of reach of children, and it is best not to transfer it to other containers.
