This medication is used to treat gastrointestinal issues such as ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Additionally, it helps prevent Mendelson's syndrome during pre-operative anesthesia and aids in treating ulcers that may arise post-surgery. It is also effective in treating gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication reduces gastric acid secretion, protecting the mucosa of the digestive system, and helps alleviate symptoms and promote healing. Overall, it is used to improve and treat symptoms related to gastrointestinal disorders.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Generally, 2 tablets orally twice a day regardless of meals, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers Administer 2 tablets twice a day or 4 tablets once before bedtime. Particularly for patients with duodenal ulcers, administering 4 tablets twice a day in the morning and before bedtime can yield a higher treatment rate. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease Administer 2 tablets twice a day for 8 weeks or 4 tablets once before bedtime.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients undergoing dialysis. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to this medication or its components should also avoid use. It is not recommended for patients with the rare disease acute porphyria, as it may induce seizures. It is also safer not to administer this medication to patients with impaired kidney function. Patients who have undergone gastric surgery should not use this medication. It is advisable for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant to avoid taking this medication. Its safety has not been established for infants or newborns. Patients on a potassium-restricted diet should also refrain from using this medication. Long-term use is not recommended, and during treatment, symptoms and test results should be checked periodically. Elderly patients, those with chronic lung diseases, diabetes, or weakened immune systems may have an increased risk of pneumonia, requiring caution. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this medication, individuals should avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. There may be interactions with other medications, so especially if taking anticoagulants or specific antibiotics or anticonvulsants, it is necessary to consult with a physician or pharmacist. There may be effects on the absorption or excretion of other drugs taken concurrently, so adjusting the timing of administration may be necessary. It is safer for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding to avoid this medication. Safety for children has not been established, so it is advisable not to use.
