Improvement of sputum expectoration in acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medication helps dissolve mucus and expel phlegm in acute and chronic respiratory diseases. Therefore, it is used for patients with excessive or sticky respiratory secretions. It aids in comfortable breathing through mucolytic and expectorant action, which is effective for symptom improvement.
Adults: Administer 300 mg of erdosteine orally 2~3 times daily. When used for acute respiratory diseases, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.
This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this medication or its components. Patients with liver cirrhosis or certain enzyme deficiencies should not take this medication due to its metabolic effects. Also, patients with peptic ulcers or severe kidney or liver dysfunction should not take this medication. Patients with slightly reduced liver function should use this medication cautiously, ensuring not to exceed 300 mg per day. Patients with diabetes or those on a low-calorie diet should be cautious when using this medication in syrup form. This medication contains a dye called Yellow No. 5, so those who are allergic or have had hypersensitivity reactions to this ingredient should be careful. Overdose may result in symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, and facial flushing. Respiratory issues like headaches, cold symptoms, and shortness of breath may also rarely occur. Gastrointestinal side effects may include altered taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Skin symptoms such as hives, red spots, and eczema may also manifest, so caution is advised. Although not definitively associated with this medication, reports of fatigue, indigestion, palpitations, facial or generalized edema, and itching have also been noted. Caution is advised when taken with expectorants, as cough relief may hinder phlegm expulsion from the bronchi, increasing the risk of bronchial infections. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should refrain from using this medication, as its safety is not ensured.
