This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and mucous membranes, including primary and recurrent genital herpes. It is also effective in treating herpes zoster virus infections, particularly helping with acute pain relief. It is also used to treat chickenpox in children over 2 years old. Overall, this drug is used for the treatment and prevention of various herpes virus infections.

How it is given

Adult administration

1. Treatment of herpes simplex virus infections: 200 mg of acyclovir is administered 5 times a day at 4-hour intervals for 5 days. In case of severe primary infections, treatment may be extended. 2. Prevention of herpes simplex infections in immunocompetent patients: administer 200 mg 4 times a day at 6-hour intervals or 400 mg twice daily at 12-hour intervals. 3. Prevention of herpes simplex infections in immunocompromised patients.
