Improvement of atherosclerosis-related symptoms such as ischemic stroke and myocardial infarction, and reduction of the risk of stroke and thromboembolism
This medication is used to improve atherosclerosis-related symptoms such as ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral artery disease. It also helps improve atherosclerosis-related symptoms causing death, myocardial infarction, and stroke due to cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with acute coronary syndrome. In patients with atrial fibrillation who have multiple vascular risk factors and for whom vitamin K antagonists are not suitable, it reduces the risk of bleeding and decreases the risk of stroke and thromboembolism. In summary, this medication is used to reduce various risks associated with heart and brain vascular diseases and to improve atherosclerosis-related symptoms.
For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease, clopidogrel is administered orally at a dose of 75 mg once daily. For patients with acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction), initiate treatment with a loading dose of 300 mg once daily on the first day, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg once daily. At this time, aspirin 75 - 325 mg should be administered once daily with this medication.
This drug inhibits platelet aggregation in the blood to prevent thrombosis. It must be converted into an active metabolite in the liver to be effective, so patients with genetically impaired enzyme activity related to this conversion may experience reduced efficacy. Therefore, if the activity of the relevant enzyme is decreased through genetic testing, it may be necessary to reconsider treatment methods or replace it with another medication. Taking this medication together with drugs that activate certain enzymes may increase the concentration of the active metabolite and heighten the risk of bleeding, so concurrent use is not recommended. Patients allergic to this drug or its components, patients with bleeding, patients with severe liver damage, breastfeeding women, and those with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients at high risk for bleeding, those with bleeding disorders, or patients scheduled for surgery should exercise particular caution when administering this medication and report any bleeding symptoms to medical personnel immediately. Taking this medication with aspirin, warfarin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may increase the risk of bleeding, so caution is advised when used concomitantly. Elderly patients, underweight patients, and those with impaired renal or liver function may also be at higher risk for bleeding while using this drug, thus careful observation and cautious administration is required. Pregnant women should use it only in emergency situations, and nursing mothers should consider discontinuation of breastfeeding or medication, as this drug may be present in breast milk. During administration of this medication, bleeding may take longer to stop than usual, so patients should immediately inform their doctor if persistent or abnormal bleeding occurs. In cases of overdose, bleeding time may be prolonged and bleeding complications may occur; thus, appropriate measures such as platelet transfusion may be required. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container.
