Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also used as an adjunct for partial seizures with or without secondary generalization in patients with epilepsy. Additionally, it is effective in alleviating symptoms of fibromyalgia. In summary, this drug is used for neuropathic pain, adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in epilepsy, and the treatment of fibromyalgia.
This medication is taken orally, divided into two doses daily, regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg once daily, can increase to 300 mg once daily after 3 to 7 days, and may be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg once daily if needed at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg once daily, increase to 300 mg once daily after one week.
There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under the age of 12 and adolescents aged 12-17 years, so administration is not recommended.
This drug may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so if symptoms of depression, mood changes, or abnormal behavior occur during treatment, notify a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with allergies to this medication's components or genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may require adjustment of blood sugar control medication doses. If symptoms of angioedema, such as swelling of the face, mouth, or neck, occur, discontinue the medication immediately. Elderly patients should take care, as dizziness or drowsiness may increase the risk of falls or injury while taking this medication. Taking this medication may temporarily blur vision or cause changes in eyesight; consult a healthcare professional if symptoms occur. Abruptly discontinuing this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, anxiety, and nausea, and should be gradually reduced under a doctor's guidance. Due to the potential for drug abuse or dependence, patients with a history of mental illness or substance abuse should use this medication cautiously. Patients with decreased kidney function may require dose adjustments of this medication. Patients with heart disease should be cautious during use, as symptoms of congestive heart failure may worsen when taking this medication. It is necessary to exercise caution when combining with other medications that have central nervous system depressant effects due to the risk of respiratory depression. Pregnant women should avoid this drug during the early stages of pregnancy due to the risk of fetal malformations, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Lactating women should carefully consider whether to take this medication as it can be passed into breast milk and affect infants. Activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, should be approached with caution after taking this medication, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, depression, and seizures can occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought.
