This medication is used to prevent and treat asthma continuously. It also helps relieve the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it is effective in improving respiratory health.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily; for asthma patients, it should be taken in the evening, and for allergic rhinitis patients, the timing of administration should be determined according to the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 10 mg once daily in the evening. Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older: Montelukast 10 mg should be administered orally once daily.

Precautions

This drug is used for the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis, and there may be neuropsychiatric symptoms, so it is important to closely monitor for changes in mental state such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts during use. This medication contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener, so patients with certain genetic disorders such as phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. Additionally, this drug contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should not use it, and it should not be given in cases of allergic reactions. Common side effects during use include headache, abdominal pain, cough, fever, and dizziness, while rare side effects may include liver dysfunction, skin rash, and blood abnormalities. This drug is not a treatment for acute asthma attacks; therefore, appropriate emergency medication must be prepared in the event of acute symptoms, and inhaled steroids should be used according to a doctor's instructions during treatment. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid using these medications while on this drug, which does not treat bronchoconstriction induced by aspirin. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medication only when necessary, and caution is advised during breastfeeding.
