This medication is used to treat symptoms of chronic constipation in adult patients who have failed to relieve their symptoms with laxative treatment.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered orally and can be taken at any time of the day regardless of meals. Adults take 2 mg once daily. Elderly patients aged 65 years and older should start with a dose of 1 mg once daily, which can be increased to 2 mg once daily if necessary. Patients with severe renal impairment should take 1 mg once daily. No dosage adjustment is needed for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. For patients with severe liver impairment

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to the main ingredient or additives, patients with severely impaired kidney function requiring dialysis, or those with significant functional or structural issues in the intestines. Additionally, patients with genetic conditions that prevent the breakdown of lactose should also avoid this medication. Patients with severely reduced kidney function should use this medication with caution and at a reduced dose. The safety of this medication has not been sufficiently studied in patients with other serious conditions affecting the liver, heart, lungs, or nervous system. Patients with a history of arrhythmias or ischemic heart disease should be particularly cautious when using this medication. Patients with severely impaired liver function should also use a lower dose, and caution is advised when taken with drugs that prolong the QT interval. Common side effects experienced during the use of this medication include headache and gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea, which usually occur early in treatment and resolve naturally over time. Other reported effects include dizziness, tremors, palpitations, and fatigue, most of which are mild. If new palpitations occur, it is important to consult a doctor immediately. The use of this medication during pregnancy is not recommended, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception while taking this medication. Nursing mothers are also advised against using this medication. This drug should generally not be administered to children or adolescents under 18 years of age. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, and diarrhea may occur; there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment should be taken based on the symptoms. Electrolyte supplementation may be necessary in cases of significant fluid loss due to diarrhea or vomiting.
