Improvement of chronic constipation symptoms
This medication is used to treat chronic constipation symptoms in adults who have failed to alleviate their symptoms with the use of laxatives. It is beneficial for individuals suffering from chronic constipation and is effective in improving symptoms.
This medication is administered orally and can be taken at any time during the day regardless of meals. Adults should take 2 mg once daily. Elderly patients over 65 years of age should start with a dose of 1 mg once daily, which may be increased to 2 mg once daily if needed. For patients with severe renal impairment (GFR < 30 ml/min/1.73 m2), the dose is 1 mg once daily. For those with mild to moderate renal impairment, no dose adjustment is needed.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. It may be dangerous for individuals who are allergic to its active ingredients or excipients, those with severely impaired kidney function, and those with serious gastrointestinal issues. Additionally, individuals with genetic conditions such as lactose intolerance should avoid this medication. Patients with severe renal impairment should use this drug with caution and in a reduced dosage. Those with significant diseases affecting the liver, heart, lungs, or nerves should also be particularly careful when using this medication. Especially, patients with a history of heart disease should take this medication with care. Taking this medication may commonly lead to gastrointestinal symptoms such as headaches, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. These symptoms typically occur within the first few days of starting treatment and often resolve over time. Various side effects, including dizziness, fatigue, frequent urination, and vomiting, have also been reported. If new symptoms of heart palpitations develop, it is advisable to consult a doctor. This medication may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, so it is recommended to use additional contraceptive methods during severe diarrhea. The potential for drug interactions is low; however, caution should be exercised when taking it alongside certain antifungal agents or heart-related medications. Additionally, using it together with atropine-like drugs may reduce its efficacy. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been sufficiently established, so it is advisable for pregnant women to avoid its use, and women of childbearing age must use effective contraception during treatment. It is recommended that breastfeeding mothers use this medication cautiously and refrain from using it whenever possible. Use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age is not recommended. In case of overdose, symptoms may include headaches, nausea, and diarrhea, and appropriate treatment should be provided based on the symptoms. This medication may cause dizziness and fatigue on the first day of use, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. When storing, keep it out of reach of children and avoid moisture by storing it in its original container.
