This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is effective in reducing the occurrence of spinal fractures, but its effectiveness against non-vertebral fractures is not yet certain. Therefore, it is primarily utilized to lower the risk of spinal-related fractures.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet (20mg of Bazedoxifene) once daily, regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of venous thromboembolism, so it is not recommended for women with a history of or risk factors for deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or retinal vein thrombosis. This medication is intended for use only in postmenopausal women and is not recommended for premenopausal women or those who might become pregnant. If uterine bleeding occurs during use, it is imperative to seek medical attention, and although it is known not to cause endometrial hyperplasia, bleeding is an unexpected symptom. Safety has not been established in patients with breast cancer, so it is advisable not to use it for the prevention or treatment of breast cancer. Patients with allergies to this medication or hypersensitivity to its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with unexplained uterine bleeding, and those with symptoms of endometrial cancer should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with lactose intolerance should avoid this medication. Patients with hypertriglyceridemia or severe kidney or liver dysfunction should use this medication with caution, and it is particularly not recommended for patients with liver dysfunction. Drowsiness or visual disturbances may occur during use, so caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery, and activities should be avoided when such symptoms are present. This medication has relatively few drug interactions; however, its effectiveness may decrease when taken with certain enzyme-inducing drugs. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication, and women who could become pregnant should consult a doctor before using it. There is no specific antidote for overdose; therefore, it is important to receive symptomatic treatment. Store out of reach of children in the original container, and avoid transferring it to another container. Finally, while the long-term use of this medication has been reported to be associated with certain cancers in some animal studies, its effects in humans are not clearly established.
