Treatment of chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout
This medication is used to treat chronic hyperuricemia occurring in patients with gout. Hyperuricemia can lead to gout attacks due to increased levels of uric acid in the blood. By controlling uric acid levels, it helps alleviate symptoms and prevent recurrences. Additionally, with continuous treatment, it contributes to the stable management of uric acid levels, protecting kidney function. This medication is effective for the chronic management of gout and plays an important role in improving the quality of life of patients.
1. Adults This medicine is administered at 40mg or 80mg once daily, regardless of meals. This medicine acts very rapidly; therefore, recheck the serum uric acid level after 2 weeks. The treatment goal is to lower and maintain the serum uric acid level below 6 mg/dL(357 μmol/L). 2. Patients with renal impairment No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate renal impairment. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have not been adequately evaluated in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance below 30mL/min). 3. Patients with hepatic impairment No special dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment. Only limited information is available for patients with moderate hepatic impairment, and the efficacy and safety of this medicine have not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child Pugh class C).
This medication may increase cardiovascular mortality in gout patients with cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it is advisable for patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, stroke, or unstable angina to consider alternative therapies. Patients with allergies to the active ingredient or excipients, those currently taking mercaptopurine or azathioprine, and patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not use this medication. Patients with a history of liver disease should have regular liver function tests during treatment, and thyroid hormone levels should also be closely monitored due to possible changes in thyroid function. Patients with ischemic heart disease or congestive heart failure should use this medication cautiously, and those taking theophylline should do so with caution when used in combination. Do not initiate treatment during an acute gout attack, and preventive treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or colchicine is recommended during the initial administration as gout attacks may temporarily worsen. While taking this medication, side effects such as liver function abnormalities, diarrhea, headaches, rashes, dizziness, and fatigue may occur; consult healthcare professionals if symptoms arise. If any cardiovascular symptoms or signs appear, inform healthcare professionals immediately and seek appropriate care. It is unsafe for pregnant or breastfeeding women to take this medication, and it has not been tested in children or adolescents under 18 years old. No special dosage adjustments are necessary for the elderly, but caution is warranted due to possible variations in sensitivity among individuals. This medication may interact with certain drugs, so inform healthcare professionals about any other medications being taken, especially mercaptopurine, azathioprine, and theophylline, which should be avoided in combination. There is no specific antidote for overdose; symptomatic treatment will be administered based on symptoms. Store this medication out of reach of children, and no special storage conditions are required.
