Effectiveness in reducing essential hypertension and cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is used for managing essential hypertension. It also helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Specifically, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death from cardiovascular diseases in patients over 55 years old with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, transient ischemic attacks, or those with high-risk diabetes and end-organ damage, particularly in patients who cannot use ACE inhibitors. Therefore, this medication helps improve the condition of patients at high risk of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
For the treatment of essential hypertension, oral administration of 40 mg of Telmisartan once daily is recommended, and it can also be effective as 20 mg once daily depending on the patient. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 80 mg once daily. For the purpose of reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, oral administration of 80 mg once daily is recommended. In cases of liver impairment, care should be taken not to exceed 40 mg once daily for mild to moderate cases.
