Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, improvement of hypercholesterolemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It particularly lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors such as hypertension, smoking, and hyperlipidemia, as well as in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it contributes to improving cardiovascular health by reducing the risk of complications following angioplasty and chronic stable angina. In patients with existing coronary heart disease, it alleviates the burden on the heart by reducing the risk of hospitalization due to myocardial infarction, stroke, or congestive heart failure. Furthermore, in patients with hyperlipidemia, it effectively regulates cholesterol and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL cholesterol to enhance vascular health. For pediatric patients with a family history or risk factors, it is used as an adjunct therapy to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels. As a result, it is very beneficial for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
The recommended starting dose for the treatment of hyperlipidemia is 10 mg taken once daily. For patients requiring more reduction in LDL cholesterol levels, the dose can be started at 20 mg or 40 mg taken once daily. Dosing should be adjusted within the range of 10-80 mg once daily according to treatment goals and patient response. Lipids should be analyzed within 2-4 weeks after initiation and dose adjustment to determine the necessary changes.
The recommended starting dose for pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10-17) is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. Dose adjustments should be made at intervals of 4 weeks or more to meet treatment goals.
