Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment of partial seizures, treatment of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used in adults to alleviate peripheral and central neuropathic pain. It is also indicated as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, whether accompanied by secondary generalized symptoms or not. Additionally, it is effective in improving symptoms of fibromyalgia. It provides assistance in the treatment of various neuro-related disorders.
This medication is administered orally, divided into two doses per day, regardless of meals. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: The starting dose is 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days. If necessary, it can be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at intervals of 7 days. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day.
Administration is not recommended for children under 12 years old and adolescents aged 12–17 years due to insufficient safety and efficacy data.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so patients and caregivers should inform healthcare professionals immediately if any symptoms of depression or mood changes occur. This drug should not be administered to patients with specific genetic lactose intolerance, and caution is warranted for patients with hypersensitivity. Diabetic patients may require adjustments in their blood sugar-lowering medication due to potential weight gain while taking this drug, which can affect blood sugar control. If symptoms of angioedema occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and elderly patients should be particularly cautious during the initial period of treatment due to the risk of accidents caused by dizziness or drowsiness. When discontinuing this medication, withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and nausea may occur; therefore, consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. Given the risk of drug abuse or dependence, a thorough review of the patient's mental health status and medication history is imperative. Patients with reduced kidney function may require dose adjustments, and careful administration is necessary for patients with heart disease. There is an increased risk of central nervous system depression when using this medication alongside opioid analgesics, so caution is advised. Pregnant women should avoid taking this medication in early pregnancy due to the risk of fetal malformations, and women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception. Lactating mothers are advised to avoid taking this medication as it may be transmitted through breast milk. The drug can cause dizziness and drowsiness, necessitating caution when driving or operating hazardous machinery. Severe skin reactions may rarely occur; if any unusual skin symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped immediately, and healthcare professionals should be consulted. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and depression may arise, and appropriate treatment, such as dialysis, may be necessary if indicated. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthmatic attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), profound lethargy, sudden and severe headaches, thunderclap headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, urinary retention.
