This medication is used to prevent and continuously treat asthma. It is also effective in alleviating symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Thus, it helps with asthma management and the relief of allergic rhinitis symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once a day, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time should be determined based on the patient’s condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet in the evening, once daily. Adults and adolescents aged 15 and older should take 10 mg of Montelukast once daily by mouth.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to this drug or its components. Additionally, this drug contains lactose, so it should not be administered to patients with a genetic disorder that prevents lactose digestion. This drug is not a treatment for acute asthma attacks, so patients should always have appropriate emergency medication ready when asthma suddenly worsens. While taking this drug, the dosage of inhaled corticosteroids can be gradually reduced, but one should not abruptly switch to a different corticosteroid. If asthma symptoms occur due to exercise, do not use this drug alone; continue using an inhaled bronchodilator and keep a fast-acting inhaler on hand for emergencies. Patients allergic to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid taking these medications while using this drug. Rarely, serious immune responses such as vasculitis may occur while taking this drug, so if skin rashes, worsening respiratory symptoms, heart problems, etc. develop, consult a doctor immediately. This medication can be used safely across various age groups, but caution should be exercised in administering it to children under 6 months old and pregnant women, and consultation with a healthcare professional is advised if necessary. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote available, so general treatment and observation are needed. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container. If neurological and psychiatric symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, or hallucinations occur while taking this drug, consult healthcare professionals immediately.
