Treatment of respiratory and skin infections, mycobacterial infections, and Helicobacter eradication
This medication is an antibiotic effective against various bacteria. It is used for lower respiratory infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia and upper respiratory infections such as pharyngitis and sinusitis. It is also effective for treating skin and soft tissue infections. It is used for mycobacterial infections, particularly those caused by Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium intracellulare. Additionally, it aids in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers. Overall, this medication is used to treat a variety of infectious diseases.
Adults: The usual dose of clarithromycin is 250mg (potency) twice daily. For severe infections, administer 500mg (potency) twice daily. The usual duration of treatment is 7~14 days. In patients with renal impairment whose creatinine clearance is 30mL/min or less, the dose should be reduced by half: 250mg (potency) once daily, or, for severe infections, 250mg (potency) twice daily. Do not administer for more than 14 days in these patients. Mycobacterial infections: Administer 500mg (potency) of this medicine twice daily. In this case, it should be administered in combination with other antimycobacterial agents, such as ethambutol, clofazimine, and rifampin. Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers: Administer 500mg (potency) of this medicine 3 times daily in combination with omeprazole 40mg once daily for 14 days, followed by omeprazole 40mg once daily for 14 consecutive days. That is, administer clarithromycin 500mg (potency) 3 times daily for 14 days (days 1~14), and omeprazole 40mg once daily for 28 days (days 1~28).
Children 12 years and older: Same as adults Children under 12 years: Use clarithromycin dry syrup.
This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to specific components or have had hypersensitivity reactions to macrolide antibiotics. It should also not be administered to patients with specific cardiac diseases or severe liver and kidney dysfunction, pregnant or breastfeeding women. Since this medication is excreted through the liver and kidneys, caution is needed for patients with weakened liver or kidney function. Careful administration is required for patients at risk for cardiac arrhythmias and the elderly. There may be many interactions when used with other medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals about any medications being taken. This medication can rarely cause severe allergic reactions or adverse reactions to the liver, kidneys, skin, or nervous system; therefore, if symptoms appear, it is crucial to consult with healthcare professionals immediately. To prevent antibiotic resistance, it is important to adhere to the appropriate dosage and duration for the infected area. If diarrhea or abdominal pain persists during treatment, close observation is necessary due to the potential for serious side effects like pseudomembranous colitis. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be avoided if possible, and if necessary, consultation with a specialist is recommended. In children and the elderly, special care must be taken to adjust dosage and duration appropriately. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal disorders or neurological symptoms may occur, so immediate attention from a medical facility is necessary. This medication should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, and not refrigerated.
