Effectiveness in the treatment of myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension and coronary artery disease (stable and unstable angina) and reduction of hospitalization risk for angina and coronary revascularization.
This medication is used to treat hypertension, stable angina, and myocardial ischemia caused by vascular spasm. Additionally, it reduces the hospitalization risk for angina patients among those recently diagnosed with coronary artery disease through angiography, who do not have heart failure or an ejection fraction below 40%. It also lowers the risk associated with coronary artery revascularization and enhances patient safety in treatment. Thus, it contributes to improving cardiovascular health.
Administer 5mg once daily by mouth as amlodipine and may increase to a maximum of 10mg daily based on patient response. Adjust dosage appropriately based on age and symptoms.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, patients who have had an allergic reaction to this or similar medications, nursing women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe aortic stenosis, and patients in shock should not use this medication. Additionally, patients with severe hypotension, those requiring dialysis for kidney failure, elderly individuals, and pregnant or possibly pregnant women should use this medication with caution. Generally, this medication is well tolerated; however, users should be aware of possible symptoms such as flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, various side effects such as hypotension, vasculitis, neurological disturbances, gastrointestinal issues, skin rashes, and liver dysfunction have been reported. For patients with heart failure, prolonged use of this medication may increase the risk of pulmonary edema, requiring caution. In patients with impaired liver function, the half-life of this medication may be prolonged, and dosage adjustment may be necessary. This medication gradually lowers blood pressure; therefore, it is not suitable for treating acute unstable angina. It is also known not to significantly impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. This medication may interact with several other drugs, especially certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, grapefruit juice, and medications metabolized in the liver. Taking it with grapefruit juice may excessively enhance its antihypertensive effect and is not recommended. During pregnancy, safety has not been established; hence, it should only be used when no other safer medications are available and the condition is severe. It is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding if using this medication while nursing. In pediatric cases, the antihypertensive effect has been confirmed only in children aged 6 years and older, and its efficacy is not known in children under the age of 6. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension and reflex tachycardia may occur, requiring immediate treatment at a medical facility, as blood dialysis is ineffective. Also, in severe cases, continuous monitoring of cardiac and respiratory functions along with appropriate supportive care is necessary.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is best to maintain storage temperatures between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature to ensure the efficacy of the medication.
